KidStart

History

When KidStart opened its first classroom for 12 children in 1977, parents described it as “something special.”

Tucked on the southwest corner of the SUNY Geneseo campus, KidStart stayed at the university for the next three decades. Over that time, the number of classrooms grew to 16 allowing for about 200 children to experience a lifechanging experience.

Due to a planned demolition and reconstruction projects on the campus, Arc purchased land for KidStart’s new home on Groveland Station Road in Mt. Morris. Construction was completed earlier than scheduled which resulted in the building opening on Jan. 24, 2011.

This started the exciting new beginning for the KidStart program; a different address, but the same atmosphere of safety, acceptance, love and respect.

Over the more than 45 years, KidStart has grown from serving 12 children to serving 350 children from eight counties and 18 school districts. Today KidStart also provides home and community-based services based on the child’s specific needs.
